| This article presents the humorous resources used by Jean Paul in his novel Flegeljahre, published by Cotta in Tübingen, 1804. The analysis of the linguistic mechanisms used by the German writer in his work is framed in the context of his theory of humor. Jean Paul mixes in this peculiar Bildungsroman satire with witty irony, in scenes that contain abundant social criticism. In Flegeljahre we find literary categories, clichés, tropes and sub-genres related to humor such as the comical, the ridiculous, caricature, incongruities, exaggeration and the false premise. All these elements and aspects, which condition and structure the narrative development, will be the object of our study. |
