Diferentes percepciones del arte islámico: una primera aproximación a través del baño de vapor (ss. XV-XX)

Abstract

A través de diversas fuentes textuales pretendemos analizar la percepción que se tuvo de lo “musulmán” y del arte islámico centrándonos en el estudio de casas de baños de vapor. Esta instalación utilizada por cristianos tras siglos de coexistencia, fue vista conforme avanzaba la conquista de las tierras de al-Ándalus como lugar de perdición y lujuria, siendo actualmente un monumento más que hace las delicias del visitante que se acerca a contemplar sus claraboyas estrelladas. Abordaremos para ello el paradigma por excelencia de la península ibérica: el Baño de Comares de Granada donde mostraremos distintas percepciones de un mismo espacio a lo largo del tiempo, comparándolo con otros repartidos por la geografía ibérica.

Through different textual sources, the aim of this paper is to analyze the perception about the “Muslim” and Islamic art, focusing on the study of steam baths. These facilities, used by Christians after centuries of coexistence were seen as the al-Ándalus conquest progressed, as a place for debauchery and lust, while it is nowadays just another monument that delights visitors who step in to marvel at its skylights. We will thus deal with the paradigmatic example in the Iberian Peninsula: the Bath of Comares in Granada, where we will show different perceptions of the same space across time, comparing it with others spread across the Iberian geography.
