Abstract: Bien, bueno and pues bien are three connective devices lexically related. Some of their uses are common for the three of them, particularly the conclusive one. However, being explanatory of the same sort is not common for these devices. Furthermore they differ both about the possibility of being used as expletive or discourse triggers (specifically in answers) and about the distinct semantic contents they add when linking.
