| Too often the Arab world is described as controversial, given the length in time of some conflicts, wars and tensions among its countries. It has become a commonplace to use the religious factor to explain this situation, citing the existence of an alleged ‘Islamic exception’ according to which Arab countries would be refractory to democracy and prone to authoritarianism. Actually, these conflicts, like those in the rest of the world, can only be understood if we apply general and universal considerations of political, economic and / or social nature. |
