Las comunidades judías del mediodía valenciano en el siglo XIV. De la vitalidad a la supervivencia

Abstract

Este artículo analiza la evolución demográfica de las comunidades judías del sur del Reino de Valencia a lo largo del siglo XIV, desde la conquista del Reino de Murcia por Jaime II hasta el pogromo de 1391. Se apunta el interés de los reyes catalano-aragoneses por contar con un colectivo hebreo en ese espacio de frontera a través de privilegios repobladores. El éxito de esta política se ve truncado por la guerra de los dos Pedros y los asaltos a las juderías de 1391, acontecimientos que contribuyen a desarticular la presencia mosaica en el sur del Reino valenciano.

This article analyses the demographical evolution of the Jewish communities of the South of the Valencian Kingdom during the 14th Century, from the conquest of the Kingdom of Murcia by Jaime II, to the pogrom of 1391. It remarks the interest of the Catalan-Aragonese kings in having Hebrew people in that frontier space through privileges for repopulating it. The success of this policy failed due to the war between the two Pedros and the assaults to the Jewish quarters of 1391. These events contributed to disarticulate the Mosaic presence in the South of the Valencian Kingdom.
