La hegemonía siderúrgica de Vizcaya: un análisis de costes (1890-1913)

Abstract

El artículo ofrece una documentación inédita sobre los costes de las fábricas siderúrgicas españolas procedente del Archivo Histórico del Crédit Lyonnais de París. Esta documentación permite: 1) comparar los costes del hierro colado, del acero y de los productos semielaborados y acabados de las fábricas vizcaínas y asturianas; 2) profundizar en las razones de la hegemonía vizcaína y 3) cuestionar un modelo de localización elaborado por Stefan Houpt según el cual Gijón y no Bilbao era el lugar óptimo para ubicar la industria del acero.

The article offers unpublished documents on the costs of the Spanish steel industry factories from the Historical Archive of the Crédit Lyonnais of Paris. This documents allow: 1) to compare the costs of the pig iron, the steel and the half-finished and finished products of the factories in Vizcaya and Asturias; 2) to deepen the knowledge about the reasons of the hegemony of Vizcaya and 3) to question the model of Stefan Houpt according to whom Gijon and not Bilbao was the right location of the steel industry.
