| Two working hypotheses are proposed in the present work: what degree of similarity or discrepancy the two ears of the same person present and what degree of similarity or discrepancy the ears of monozygotic twins present. Prints have been collected from both the right and left ears of twenty-one individuals of both sexes and different ages (between 6 and 84 years) and of the two ears of two monozygotic twin sisters. It has been found that both the shape and the otograms of the two ears of all the individuals studied present more differences than similarities, and when comparing the left and right otograms of two monozygotic twins, important morphological differences were found. It is concluded that the ears of the same individual present more differences than similarities, that the ears of two monozygotic twins are different, that of the three comparison methods used, transparency is the one that offers the best results and that the most useful structures for the comparison have been helix, antehelix, tragus and antitragus. |
