Ecological restoration deals with complex socio-ecological systems, and thus, it requires the use of multidisciplinary approaches. The ability to analyze socio-ecological systems, by identifying their main elements and their interactions, is crucial to understand their functioning, the role of each component and process and, finally, to predict the results of restoration actions. Hand-drawn videos allow a chronological follow-up of processes by combining verbal explanations and graphic representations. In addition, they generate conspicuous materials, in a popular medium. We have developed hand-drawn videos to help students understand the restoration of socio-ecological systems and foster discussion on the limitations of and opportunities for socioecological restoration. Models were recorded with VideoScribe®. We evaluated their potential to facilitate students’ learning process by means of a survey, and the analysis of the scores obtained by volunteer students. Results are analyzed and will be used to improve models and videos. Videos will be later uploaded to popular online platforms to facilitate students’ access.
