Abstract: 
L’escriptor Manuel de Pedrolo té una importància cabdal en la literatura de gènere, però sobretot la seva obra ha influït en la novel·la policíaca i la ciència-ficció. En la novel·la negra, l’autor establí les bases per consolidar i dignificar aquest gènere a Catalunya —al capdavant d’una col·lecció pionera a l’alçada d’altres d’europees, «La Cua de Palla»—, en facilita la normalització (es crea un llenguatge que heretaran els escriptors posteriors) i aposta per una novel·la negra pròpia. Tota la seva novel·la negra té un clar component social, realista i versemblant, que retrata l’ambient més gris i empobrit de la postguerra. L’erotisme sovint hi és present, així com les situacions extremes i el dinamisme, emmarcades a la ciutat. Els personatges delinqueixen a causa de la misèria i els esperen sovint finals tràgics amb lliçó moral. Altres obres narratives contenen elements policíacs, o d’altres gèneres, tret que aporta cohesió i globalitat a l'obra de l'autor segarrenc.
The writer Manuel de Pedrolo is a leading figure in genre literature, but, most importantly, his work has greatly influenced detective novels and science fiction. Through his detective novels, he paves the way to consolidate and dignify this genre in Catalonia, heading La Cua de Palla, a ground-breaking book collection to match the best in Europe, and he opens the door to standardisation, thus creating a new language that future writers will inherit, while simultaneously creating a new style of detective novels. In all his detective novels there is a clear, realistic and plausible social component, which portrays the bleak impoverished post-war atmosphere. In his view of the city, eroticism as well as extreme situations can often be found. His characters are bound to do wrong because they come from a poor background and a moralistic tragic end usually awaits them. Other narrative works by Pedrolo include elements from thrillers or other genres, traits which bring a cohesion to his work as a whole.
