Recycling plays an important role in meeting this objective. It also involves engaging consumers in making informed and responsible decisions about what they buy, use and dispose of, encouraging the adoption of sustainable consumption patterns. Project-based learning is an appropriate methodology to train students in higher-order thinking skills that enable them to provide solutions to real problems. The main objective of this research, using the project-based learning methodology, is to train students to become citizens committed to the circular economy and aware of their social responsibility. It focuses on the recycling behaviour of household materials and aims to find out if there are gender differences. The methodology used was participatory action research, with a measurement instrument consisting of ad-hoc questionnaires, administered online. The results indicate that most of the participants have improved their recycling habits after the experience. There are differences in recycling behaviour, both pre- and post-experiment, for some of the materials studied. Some of the conclusions are: 1) the use of project-based learning is recommended. 2) Gender differences should be taken into account when designing activities and campaigns, both information and awareness-raising on recycling.
