El sonido del silencio: incertidumbre y anomia en la juventud a través de El graduado

Abstract: 
Este artículo analiza la película El graduado (1967) para explorar las incertidumbres de la juventud en la década de 1960 que pueden servir de reflejo en las actuales generaciones. La película aborda la vida de Benjamin Braddock, quien, después de graduarse, se encuentra en un estado anómico debido al incierto futuro que le espera. En este sentido, se pretende mostrar también un ejemplo concreto del papel decisivo que asumió la música popular de Simon & Garfunkel, en concreto el tema The Sound of Silence, en la subversión discursiva de El graduado al expresar las inquietudes sociales de la juventud de la época a través de la sensación de aislamiento y la búsqueda de significado del protagonista. Aunque las décadas difieren en su contexto, los temas de autonomía y rebeldía contra las expectativas sociales unen a las juventudes de ambas épocas al destacar temas universales como la identidad y el cambio social.
This article analyzes the film The Graduate (1967) to explore the uncertainties of youth in the 1960s that can be mirrored in today’s generations. The film deals with the life of Benjamin Braddock, who, after graduating, finds himself in an anomic state due to the uncertain future that awaits him. In this sense, it is also intended to show a concrete example of the decisive role assumed by the popular music of Simon & Garfunkel, specifically the song The Sound of Silence, in the discursive subversion of The Graduate by expressing the social concerns of the youth of the time through the protagonist’s sense of isolation and search for meaning. Although the decades differ in context, the themes of autonomy and rebellion against social expectations unite the youth of both eras by highlighting universal topics such as identity and social change.
