El concepto de Tardoantigüedad. Revisión historiográfica y problemas metodológicos

Abstract

Será bien entrada la década de los 80 del siglo pasado cuando se empiecen a plantear modelos teóricos alternativos a la idea de decadencia, cuestionando las tesis catastrofistas acerca de la caída del Imperio Romano y cobrando fuerza el concepto de Tardoantigüedad y la idea de transición. Sin embargo, el surgimiento de toda esta serie de modelos, así como del propio concepto de Tardoantigüedad, plantean una serie de problemas metodológicos que deben ser tenidos en cuenta cuando analizamos las sociedades del pasado. Con este trabajo se pretende reflexionar acerca de toda esta serie de cuestiones.

It will be at the beginning of the eighties of the past century when it began to propose alternative theoretical models to the idea of decline, questioning the catastrophist thesis about the fall of the Roman Empire and on the other hand, the concept of Late Antiquity and the idea of transition getting strength. Nevertheless, the emergence of this wide range of models as also the concept of Late Antiquity, present a series of methodological problems that should be taken into account when analyzing societies of the past. Through this work it is pretended to reflect on all these kind of questions.
