Dos miradas cruzadas en la historiografía americana: las modalidades discursivas del Inca Garcilaso de la Vega y fray Bernardino de Sahagún

Abstract

La identificación del cronista de Indias con el mundo americano es una línea discursiva dentro de la tradición historiográfica americana iniciada por fray Bernardino de Sahagún y continuada de forma magistral por el Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. Ambos cronistas presentan en sus obras numerosas vías de comunicación entre el mundo indígena y el cristiano destacando en esta comunicación aquellas que establecieron al realizar una interpretación humanista de las religiones prehispánicas. El fraile seráfico y el cronista mestizo entendieron que en las creencias antiguas de los indios ya había vislumbres de la fe verdadera, una especie de teología natural que les permitía conciliar las religiones no cristianas con el catolicismo romano.

The identification of the chronicler of the Indies with the American world is a discursive trend within the American historiographical tradition initiated by fray Bernardino de Sahagún. Inca Garcilaso de la Vega will follow it with mastery. Both chroniclers present in all their works a great number of means of communication between the indigenous and the Christian culture, those established by making a humanistic approach of the pre-hispanic religions. Both the seraphic friar and Garcilaso understood that in the ancient beliefs of the Indians there was already a glimmer of true faith, a kind of natural theology that allowed them to concile the non-Chistian religions with the Roman Catholicism.
