Abstract

Revitalización del patrimonio fortificado a través de sus accesos y programa vinculado a la gastronomía y cultura local es una propuesta de intervención para revitalizar el Castillo de Santa Bárbara, cuyo principal objetivo es mejorar considerablemente tanto uno de sus principales accesos como los servicios de hostelería actuales, añadiendo además un nuevo uso que será de interés tanto para los turistas como para los alicantinos, y que traerá el arte contemporáneo al interior del complejo, enfatizando el contraste entre lo histórico y lo actual pero sin perder la estética del mismo. Esta misma premisa nos sirve para el nuevo diseño del restaurante, basado en la utilización de paneles cerámicos que imitan la apariencia de los muros del castillo, aunque dejan unos pequeños huecos por los que pasa la luz, dando ligereza a la estructura y diferenciándola del resto. La remodelación de los kioscos utilizará a su vez dichos paneles, de tal forma que toda la intervención visible quedará estéticamente relacionada. El Castillo de Santa Bárbara es uno de los iconos más emblemáticos de la ciudad de Alicante, es por eso que Reactivación del patrimonio fortificado a través de sus accesos y programa respetará en todo momento la identidad del complejo, integrándose sutilmente en el mismo.

Reactivating the fortified patrimony through its accesses and program linked to local culture and gastronomy is an intervention proposal to revitalise Santa Barbara´s Castle, which main objective is to improve considerably one of its main accesses and the current catering services, adding a new use that will be of interest for the tourists as much as for the locals. On top, it will bring contemporary art to the complex, emphasising the contrast between the historic and modern elements without losing its original esthetic. This premise will be useful for the new design of the restaurant, based on the use of ceramic panels that imitate the appearance of the walls of the castle, although they leave small holes for the light to pass, giving thinness to the structure and making it different from the rest. The panels will be used as well in the refurbishment of the kiosks, therefore all the visible intervention will remain esthetically related. Santa Barbara’s Castle is one of the most emblematic icons of the city of Alicante, that is the reason why Reactivating the fortified patrimony through its accesses and program will respect at all times the identity of the complex, integrating itself subtly.
