| Abstract: | The use of certain devices drawn from several languages in this historical novel brings out a number of linguistic anachronisms and provides the story with an ironic and even humorous undercurrent. As these devices are used deliberately by the author as part of his literary system, they take on an artistic relevance which is worth investigating. |
