Inferència i subjectivació en la interpretació dels fraseologismes. Un estudi qualitatiu en l’àmbit de l’ensenyament secundari

Abstract

Actualment els joves presenten moltes dificultats a l’hora de comprendre la fraseologia, i, en conseqüència, no l’usen. Aquestes mancances tenen a veure, entre altres factors, amb la distància cultural que existeix entre la realitat que actua com a rerefons del significat fraseològic i el coneixement enciclopèdic dels parlants. En aquest sentit, resulta interessant descriure els condicionants que determinen la comprensió de la fraseologia per part dels estudiants de secundària i analitzar els processos pragmaticocognitius que els permeten interpretar les unitats fraseològiques. Precisament, aquests són els objectius del nostre article. Així, doncs, el principal mecanisme que possibilita la comprensió del significat fraseològic i la identificació de la motivació, o de les imatges conceptuals que aquest significat evoca, és la inferència. A més, la percepció subjectiva i el bagatge experiencial de cada estudiant fan un paper decisiu en la interpretació dels fraseologismes, car la manca de correspondència entre els referents socioculturals dels joves i els referents que engendraren el sentit d’algunes d’aquestes estructures lingüístiques implica que sovint es generen interpretacions alternatives. Al capdavall, això demostra que la comprensió i l’evolució de la fraseologia s’emmarquen dins els processos normals de canvi lexicosemàntic.

Present-day young people find great difficulties in understanding idioms, and as a result, they do not resort to them. Such problems result from a variety of factors, which include the cultural distance between the reality which acts as the background to the meaning of idioms, on the one hand, and speakers’ encylopedic knowledge, on the other. In this respect, it is worth describing the factors which influence secondary school students’ understanding of idioms and analysing the pragmatic and cognitive processes allowing them to interpret phraseological units; such is precisely the purpose of this paper. Thus, inference is the main mechanism making it possible to understand phraseological meaning and to identify the motivation or the conceptual images evoked by such meaning. Besides, the subjective perception and the experiential background of each student play a decisive role in the interpretation of idioms: indeed, the lack of correspondence between young people’s social and cultural references and the references which once created the meaning of some of these structures, often lead to alternative interpretations of idioms. Eventually, this proves that the understanding and evolution of idioms are part of the normal processes of lexical and semantic change.
