El llatí en el text de la Festa o Misteri d’Elx

Abstract

La Festa o Misteri d’Elx presenta tres parts en llatí: el prec dels apòstols Salve, regina, el cant funerari In exitu Israel de Egipto i el fi nal Gloria Patri. El primer fragment és un centó procedent de diferents antífones i lletanies; el segon fragment és el salm 113 de la Bíblia Vulgata Clementina, que possiblement era diferent en les primeres versions de la Festa, i el tercer fragment és la doxologia menor. Les diferents consuetes mostren una tradicional pronunciació nacional del llatí, i no l’eclesiàstica.

The liturgical drama Mistery Play of Elx has three parts in Latin: the Apostles’ prayer Salve, regina, the hymn In exitu Israel de Egipto, and the final Gloria Patri. The first part is a collage from Antiphons and Litanies, the second passage is Psalm 113 from the Clementine Vulgate, which was possibly different in earlier versions of the La Festa, and the third one is the Minor Doxology. Old drama libretti (called consueta) show a national pronunciation of Latin, not an Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation.
