El tesorillo islámico de Begastri

Abstract

En el transcurso de unos trabajos arqueológicos en el yacimiento de Begastri (Cehegín, Murcia) fue exhumado un conjunto metálico de época islámica que se hallaba en el interior de una vasija cerámica. El tesorillo, datado en el siglo XI, contenía algunas piezas de orfebrería y 237 monedas de plata, muchas de ellas fragmentadas en trozos de pequeño tamaño. La mayor parte de este numerario es norteafricano, acuñado por la dinastía fatimí, rival de los Omeyas de al-Andalus, siendo este conjunto de Begastri, por el momento, la mayor ocultación de plata fatimí hallada en el šarq al-Andalus.

During the excavations in the archaeological site of Besgastri (Cehegín, Murcia) some metallic remains were discovered inside a ceramic vessel. This small treasure, dated to the 11 th century, consists of a few pieces of jewelry and 237 silver coins, many of these being small fragmented pieces. Most of the coins are North African, produced by the Fatimids, the enemy dynasty of the Spanish Umayyads. This archaeological fi nd from Begastri is at the moment the biggest hidden Fatimid silver hoard found in Sarq al-Andalus.
