Abstract: The aim of this two-hour seminar is to offer students the opportunity to get to grips with the linguistic rituals of behaviour, rhetorical conventions and communication strategies in English for professional purposes, and use this understanding to communicate with British people effectively and appropriately in the intercultural professional scenario. The seminar will be divided into two parts: (a) exploring the way universal value dimensions have been negotiated into differing culture-specific value orientations in Peninsular Spanish and British English; and (b) acquiring intercultural communicative competence (ICC) in English for professional purposes.
