Alzira en les Corts del Regne de València en temps de Joan II (1458-1479)

Abstract

L’article aborda la participació d’Alzira en el braç reial de les Corts del regne de València durant el regnat de Joan II (1458-1479). Una cronologia en què se celebraren tres reunions parlamentàries, dues de les quals s’insereixen al marc de la guerra civil catalana (1462-1472). Un conflicte bèl·lic en el qual la societat política valenciana intentà mitjançar entre el rei i la Generalitat de Catalunya, però fracassà. Aquesta manca d’èxit va exigir als valencians posicionar-se en el conflicte per mitjà de les forces polítiques del regne (el braç eclesiàstic, el nobiliari i el reial). En el marc d’aquests esdeveniments l’estudi mostra la gestió diplomàtica i l’esforç del govern municipal alzireny per mantindré una actitud cordial sense renunciar a defensar els seus interessos particulars enfront als d’altres actors polítics. En aquest sentit, lluny de deixar-se guiar pels dictats de la ciutat de València, s’adherirà a l’opinió defensada per Xàtiva i altres viles reials. Una circumstància que fa visible l’escissió interna de l’estament reial al segle XV i que evidenciara com les afeccions de les elits de la capital s’havien distanciat de les de la resta de ciutats i viles del patrimoni de reialenc. Unes dissidències, que s’il·lustren en el cas dels síndics parlamentaris alzirenys, que, desatenent la urgència de la monarquia, s’enrolaran en disputes internes de l’estament reial sobre el reajustament fiscal i la reivindicació de contribuir al donatiu reial d’acord amb una actualització del nombre de focs de la vila. Així mateix, enmig d’aquell ambient, una facció del patriciat alzireny obtindrà del rei una modificació del sistema d’elecció dels càrrecs públics, que encara produirà majors tensions locals. Una jerarquia d’interessos de les elits locals que es projecten a través dels diferents posicionaments i discursos, els quals acaben incidint en la capacitat de resolució política dels estaments i en els ritmes de la recaptació fiscal de la Generalitat Valenciana.

The article deals with the participation of Alzira in the royal urban branch of the Courts of parliamentarians of the Kingdom of Valencia during the reign of John II (1458-1479). A chronology in which three parliamentary meetings were held, two of which are part of the catalan civil war (1462-1472). A warlike conflict, in which the Valencian political society tried to mediate between the king and the Generalitat of Catalonia, but failed. This lack of success required the Valencians to position themselves in the conflict through the political forces of the kingdom (the ecclesiastical, noble and royal arms). In the context of these events, the study shows the diplomatic management and effort of the Alzira municipal government to maintain a cordial position without renouncing to defend its particular interests against other political actors. In this sense, far from being guided by the dictates of the city of Valencia, he will adhere to the opinion defended by Xàtiva and other royal towns. A circumstance that makes visible the internal split within the royal estate in the 15th century and that showed how the affections of the elites of the capital had moved away from those of the rest of the cities and towns of the royal heritage. Dissidences, which are illustrated in the case of the Alzira parliamentary trustees, who, ignoring the urgency of the monarchy, will be involved in internal disputes of the royal estate about the fiscal readjustment and the claim to contribute to the royal donation of in accordance with an update of the number of fires in the town. Likewise, in the midst of that atmosphere, a faction of the Alzirean patricians will obtain from the king a modification of the system for electing public positions, which will produce even greater local tensions. A hierarchy of conflicting interests of the local elites that are projected through the different positions and speeches, which end up affecting the political decision-making capacity of the estates and the rates of tax collection of the Generalitat Valenciana.
