La norma i el canvi lexicosemàntic: el cas de desenvolupar

Abstract

En quina mesura el procés de codificació iniciat per Pompeu Fabra a la primeria del segle XX ha influït la llengua catalana i, més concretament, el lèxic del català contemporani? Aquest és l’interrogant que ens va moure a dissenyar un projecte de recerca centrat a analitzar la repercussió del procés de normativització sobre l’evolució del català actual. En aquesta ocasió, ens centrarem en el cas de desenvolupar (i el derivat desenvolupament) i envolupar. Descrivim i examinem la història i l’estructura semàntica de tots dos verbs. La recuperació de desenvolupar i la creació de desenvolupament amb significats nous per part del model normatiu obeeixen a cobrir necessitats expressives de la societat del segle XX. Representen un grapat de mots recuperats de la llengua antiga després d’haver caigut en desús o fins i tot sense que haguessen tingut gaire arrelament. El cas del verb desenvolupar i el derivat desenvolupament pot veure’s com una història d’èxit.

To what extent the codification process initiated by Pompeu Fabra at the beginning of the XX century has influenced the Catalan language and, more specifically, the contemporary Catalan lexicon? This is the question that moved us to design a research project focused on analyzing the repercussion of the standardization process on the evolution of contemporary Catalan. On this occasion, we will focus on the case of desenvolupar (and the derivative desenvolupament) and envolupar. We describe and examine the history and semantic structure of both verbs. The recovery of desenvolupar and the creation of desenvolupament with new meanings by Catalan normative model obey to cover expressive needs of society of the 20th century. They represent a handful of words recovered from the ancient language after having fallen into disuse or even without having had much root. The case of the verb desenvolupar and the derivative desenvolupament can be seen as a success story.
