From Research on Data-Intensive Software to Innovation in Data Spaces: A Search Service for Tabular Data

Abstract

Within research on data-intensive software development, a significant opportunity is emerging around data spaces. The main challenge is enabling researchers to create spin-offs that transfer research results within data spaces, beyond traditional approaches such as licensing or patenting. To address this challenge, we have combined the renowned Lean Startup approach with the Last Research Mile methodology in a novel technology transfer process. Finally, our journey in creating InferIA, a spin-off from the Science Park of the University of Alicante, is outlined to provide lessons learned when research results on tabular data search are transferred as innovative services within a data space context.
