El (falso) sarcófago de Ermengon[- - -] de San Pedro de Tomeza (Pontevedra)

Abstract

El P. Martín Sarmiento descubrió en 1745 un sarcófago romano en la localidad de San Pedro de Tomeza (Pontevedra) con el nombre del Ermengon[- - -]. Más de un siglo después, el Museo de Pontevedra recibió otro sarcófago de la misma procedencia pero con texto diferente. En gran parte de la bibliografía las dos piezas se han considerado como parte de un mismo monumento, aunque se trata de dos sarcófagos de los años 624 y 562 d.C. respectivamente.

The pather Martín Sarmiento discovered in 1745 a Roman sarcophagus in the village of San Pedro de Tomeza (Pontevedra) with the name of Ermengon[- - -]. More than a century later, the Museo de Pontevedra received another sarcophagus from the same spot but with a different text. In much of the bibliography, the two pieces have been considered as part of the same monument, although they are two sarcophagi from the years 624 and 562 A.D. respectively.
