Inventario y rutas del patrimonio industrial de Novelda

Abstract

Este trabajo descubre y estudia el patrimonio industrial del municipio de Novelda (Alicante) condicionado por la presencia histórica del río Vinalopó y la inauguración de la línea ferroviaria Madrid-Alicante en 1858; esta dinamizó la implantación de diversas industrias ubicadas en su entorno próximo. El desarrollo económico y social de la ciudad se vincula al ferrocarril durante un siglo (ca. 1875-1975) ya que posibilitó el comercio de diversos productos que demandaron arquitecturas industriales relacionadas con la elaboración, el almacenaje y la distribución más allá del ámbito provincial. Resultarían determinantes las actividades de la manufactura de la piedra natural y del embolsado de especias, pero no son las únicas. Sin embargo, debido a la disminución del uso del tren como sistema de envío de mercancías y a la obsolescencia de las instalaciones con el paso del tiempo, este patrimonio ha ido menguando, bien por derribo, bien por inactividad. El riesgo de desaparición de estas arquitecturas industriales es evidente a la vista de las pocas que restan en pie. El objetivo de este trabajo es el inicio del inventariado de las naves y fábricas que aún existen y que modificaron el paisaje del valle del Vinalopó a su paso por Novelda. Se acomete también una primera aproximación a la clasificación de las tipologías empleadas en cada caso.

This work discovers and studies the industrial heritage from the municipality of Novelda (Alicante), influenced by the historical presence of the Vinalopó river, and the inauguration of the Madrid-Alicante railway line in 1858; which stimulated the implementation of various industries located in its immediate environment. The city’s economic and social development has been connected to the railway for a century (ca. 1875-1975), since it enabled the trade of various products in need of industrial architectures related to production, storage and distribution beyond the provincial sphere. Stone production activities and the bagging of spices would be decisive, but they are not the only industries. However, due to the decrease of the train as a freight delivery system, and the obsolescence of facilities over time, this heritage decreases by the day, either due to demolition or inactivity. The risk of disappearance of these industrial architectures is evident, in view of the few that remain. The goal of this work is to begin an inventory of the warehouses and factories that still exist, and that modified the landscape of the Vinalopó valley as it passed through Novelda. A first approach to the classification of typologies used in each case is also undertaken.
