Cauces meandriformes y riesgos naturales en la cartografía histórica del Mediterráneo español

Abstract

El presente artículo pretende reflexionar sobre la validez de la cartografía histórica, relativa a ríos de la España mediterránea, en el estudio de las relaciones entre las sociedades ribereñas y la morfogénesis fluvial. Para ello se han seleccionado mapas del s. XVIII y de la primera mitad del XIX que representan trenes de meandros libres, debido a sus características dinámicas de tipo plurisecular. Su análisis permite obtener conclusiones desde dos perspectivas: la geomorfológica y la técnica, relacionada con los ambiciosos proyectos dirigidos a contrarrestar los efectos derivados de la sinuosidad de los meandros.

This article aims to reflect upon the validity of the historical cartography of the rivers of Mediterranean Spain in the study of the relationships between riparian societies and fluvial morphogenesis. Maps were selected from the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century showing free meander trains due to their centuries-long dynamic nature. Analysis of these documents leads to conclusions from geomorphologic and technical perspectives, with regard to the ambitious projects designed to counteract the effects of the sinuousity of meanders.
