Iyih (El Tolmo de Minateda, Hellín, Albacete): una civitas en el limes visigodo-bizantino

Abstract

La documentación arqueológica plantea el carácter de ciuitas que pudo tener este yacimiento en torno a los SS. VI-VIII d.C. y la posibilidad de que el Tolmo se encontrara en el lado bizantino del limes se demuestran en la construcción y características edilicias de sus defensas y de las estructuras urbanas. Por otro lado, identifican este yacimiento con la Iyih del Pacto de Teodomiro desconocida hasta el momento.

Archeological evidence raises the question of the status of ciuitas which this site may have had around 6th-8th century AD and the possibility that the Tolmo may have been situated in the Byzantine side of the limes. This is suggested by the building characteristics of its town defences and its urban structures. On the basis of these features, this site can be identified as the Iyih of the Pacto de Teodomiro, which had remained unidentified until now.
