La sociabilidad en una academia literaria. El caso de los Nocturnos de Valencia (1591-1594)

Abstract

Uno de los espacios de sociabilidad más singulares de que tenemos testimonio es el constituido por las academias literarias del Siglo de Oro. Proyectando en su seno las relaciones políticas, sociales, económicas y religiosas de su época, como si se tratara de un pequeño mundo capaz de emular el orden exterior, la academia es también el mejor escaparate de las modas literarias, las polémicas y los avatares de la literatura contemporánea de su tiempo. El caso de los nocturnos es relevante, pues, al conservarse las actas de sus reuniones, sus estatutos y la nómina de sus miembros, es posible explicar la red de relaciones habidas en el seno del cenáculo, así como el poder instructivo que tuvo la academia sobre los académicos, la mayoría de ellos jóvenes imperitos a la sazón. El cenáculo valenciano, en tal contexto, hizo las veces de espacio de sociabilidad tanto como entorno en que comparecían y se relacionaban según su posición fuera de la academia cuanto como medio instructor de asuntos no solo poéticos y lingüísticos, sino también ceremoniales y sociales.

One of the most unique spaces of sociability of which we have testimony is the one constituted by the literary academies of the Golden Age. Projecting within them the political, social, economic and religious relations of its time, as if it were a small world capable to emulate the external order, the academy is also the best showcase of the literary fashions, the controversies and the vicissitudes of the contemporary literature of its time. The case of the Nocturnos is relevant, because, by keeping the actas of their meetings, their statutes and the payroll of their members, it is possible to explain the network of relationships within the Cenacle, as well as the instructive power that the academy had. on the academics, most of them young. The Valencian cenacle, in such a context, contributed to their socialization both as a space in which they appeared and related according to their position outside the academy and as an instructor of both poetic and linguistic matters, as well as ceremonial and social.
