La integración europea en la prensa española (1945-1977)

Abstract

El presente trabajo trata de analizar, de forma descriptiva, cómo contó la prensa española (ABC, Arriba, La Vanguardia Española, Pueblo y Ya) los avances del proyecto de integración europea desde el fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial hasta la solicitud de adhesión de España (1945-1977). En total, se estudia la cobertura de veintiún hitos. Como principal resultado, se observa que no es hasta la firma del Tratado de Roma en el 57 cuando todos dedican a la cuestión comunitaria una atención privilegiada. Ahora bien, hay que esperar a la solicitud española de asociación a las Comunidades, cinco años más tarde, para que el apoyo a la construcción europea sea incontestable en todas las cabeceras. Por otro lado, se advierte que hasta 1970 no aparece ninguna referencia a la exclusión de nuestro país de la familia comunitaria por el carácter dictatorial del Régimen franquista.

The present paper aim is to analyse in a descriptive way how the Spanish press (ABC, Arriba, La Vanguardia Española, Pueblo and Ya) covered the progress of the European integration project from the end of the Second War World to the membership application of Spain (1945-1977). Thus, it addresses the coverage of out of twenty-one key events. In this research is observed that is not until the signing of the Treaty of Rome in 1957 that all the newspapers give substantial attention to the Community question. That said, we have to wait until the Spanish request of association, five years later, to see full support to the European institutions in all the publications. On another note, it is found that up to 1970 there is no reference to the exclusion of our country from the Community family due to the dictatorial nature of the Francoist Regime.
