Resum: This Master’s Thesis aims at combining both foreign language and visual literacy instruction to work on emotional intelligence. In order to do so, a selected reading, Patrick Ness’s A Monster Calls (2011), has been presented here as the instrument to achieve this objective. This paper includes a literary review to justify the selection of this novel and the development of a contextualized lesson plan. Readers will find the didactic proposal with exercises that have been designed to specifically work key competences, cross-curricular elements and the contents of the secondary education curricular at the Valencian Community. Yet, introducing emotions in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context is the main purpose of this paper.
