El socialismo guipuzcoano y el terrorismo de ETA en los inicios de la democracia. Historia y Memoria. 1977-1984

Abstract

El presente trabajo estudia la relación entre el terrorismo de ETA y el Partido Socialista de Euskadi en Guipúzcoa durante el periodo 1979-1984, prestando atención tanto a la historia como a la memoria de tal fenómeno. Por una parte, se describe el ambiente político de la transición y el fuerte impacto que el terrorismo etarra tuvo en el mismo. Asimismo, se analiza la navegación ideológica que ejerce el socialismo vasco, pasando de compartir cartel antifranquista con ETA a convertirse en 1979, tras el asesinato de Germán González, en objetivo de la banda. Se analizan algunos momentos de la vida municipal guipuzcoana previa a la autonomía, donde se percibe la retórica socialista sobre este asunto. Se hace especial hincapié en lo acontecido tras el citado asesinato, y lo que supone para el socialismo guipuzcoano. El estudio profundiza en la época previa al asesinato de Enrique Casas, en 1984, cuando la hostilidad al socialismo guipuzcoano cada vez es más alta y se tensionan las relaciones con el nacionalismo vasco radical. El análisis se lleva a cabo utilizando fuentes hemerográficas y también historia oral, la cual ayuda a reconstruir tanto el ambiente político como las subjetividades que lo jalonaron.

The aim of this paper is to study the relationship between ETA’s terrorism and the Socialist Party of Euskadi in Guipúzcoa during 1979-1984, analysing the history and the memory of said process. Both the political environment of the transition, and ETA’s terrorism strong impact on it are revised. The Basque Socialism ideological navigation that did relate to terrorism is also studied. In this regard, the Socialist party shared the antifrancoist experience with ETA, though after the coming of democracy, the Socialists became a terrorist target. Therefore, some moments of the municipal life in Gipuzkoa prior to the autonomy are also analysed, as well as the socialist rhetoric concerning ETA. The analysis also addresses the murder of Germán González, a Socialist who had supported the Statute of Autonomy, and what it meant for Gipuzkoan Socialism. After that, a new political period started, when the hostility to Gipuzkoan Socialism increased and relations with radical Basque nationalism worsened. The assassination of Enrique Casas in 1984 put an end to this period. The analysis draws both on archival sources and oral history.
