Discurso e idealización en Pere Marsili (Liber gestorum II, 31)

Abstract

This paper deals with the Latin translation of the Llibre dels fets by Jaume I which was produced by Pere Marsili at the beginning of the 14th century under commission from Jaume II of Aragon. The analysis focuses on the speech Abu Yahya, the Saracen king of Mallorca, held in front of his people when the Christian attack was imminent. Marsili’s magnificent and pathetic amplificatio of the few sentences included of the Catalan original (LF §79) testifies to his originality and literary sensibility, as well as to the great care he took to magnify the events reported.
